Counselling, also known as talking therapy, offers a confidential and supportive space to discuss your problems and feelings. Through our conversations, you can understand your issues, explore thoughts and emotions, and develop effective coping strategies. My goal is to provide emotional support, facilitate personal growth, and enhance your mental well-being.
What to expect from a Counselling Session
Your first counselling session is an important step toward getting the support you need.
Here’s what you can generally expect during that initial session:
Introduction and Setting Expectations
- Your therapist will introduce themselves and will provide information about their background, qualifications, and professional affiliations.
- Then they will explain confidentiality policy and will talk about therapy they offer
- You will have the opportunity to discuss your goals for therapy and any specific concerns you have.
- If you are unsure about anything, feel free to ask questions.
Getting to Know You:
- The first session therapist will be asking questions about you, your coping mechanisms, and your symptoms. It is essentially an interview to understand your needs better.
- You will have a chance to share your story and explain the problems you are experiencing.
Building Trust:
- Therapist will aim to create a safe and supportive environment. Trust-building is crucial during this session.
- You will discuss how long the therapy might last and how many sessions are available.
Emotional Impact:
- Be prepared for emotional intensity. Even if you do not initially expect it, the first session can be draining.
- Remember, therapist is here to listen and support you, not to judge or criticize.
